Our Story
Our clinic's story is deeply rooted in the legacy of Dr. Gordon Davidson, a highly respected and accomplished professional in the field of trauma treatment. With an extensive background working with trauma, Dr. Davidson dedicated his life to helping individuals affected by these experiences.
Having treated hundreds of individuals impacted by trauma, Dr. Davidson's expertise extended beyond therapy sessions. He conducted critical incident debriefings for over 25 years in various settings, providing crucial support to those affected by traumatic events. In addition, he played a pivotal role in training first-responder groups in peer debriefing processes, empowering them to navigate the emotional toll of their work.
One of Dr. Davidson's significant contributions was conducting psycho-legal PTSD assessments for individuals who experienced workplace traumas, as well as those in police and military settings. His expertise was also sought after by survivors of native residential schools, as he provided essential support and guidance through their healing journeys. Through his work as a counsellor for members and former members of the military and RCMP, Dr. Davidson developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges and rewards involved in such professions.
Beyond his dedication to individual therapy and trauma work, Dr. Davidson was an innovator in the mental health field. In the mid-1970s, he introduced mindfulness and yoga methods to the BC Mental Health system, recognizing their potential in promoting well-being and resilience. Always at the forefront of advancements, he was an early adopter of biofeedback methods and developed strategies utilizing this technology for the treatment of PTSD.
In 2013, Dr. Davidson founded an outpatient treatment center for PTSD, where he conducted individual and group therapy sessions. Recognizing the need for comprehensive care, he went on to establish a groundbreaking four-week residential program for individuals suffering from PTSD in 2016. This program was the first of its kind in Canada and showcased highly encouraging results. Inspired by the outcomes, Dr. Davidson developed the Operational Stress Recovery Program, with a specific focus on supporting police and military personnel.
Dr. Davidson's expertise in workplace stress issues made him a sought-after consultant for provincial and municipal governments, hospitals, First Nations groups, professional partnerships, corporations, and NGOs. His collaboration with labor lawyers to offer workshops on workplace bullying and harassment further demonstrated his commitment to improving work environments and promoting psychological well-being. Dr. Davidson's insights were widely recognized and quoted in media outlets, including the Vancouver Sun and Toronto Globe and Mail. His research contributions were published in esteemed journals such as the Journal of Family Psychology and the Organizational Development Journal. He also presented his findings at provincial, national, and international conferences, including Europe.
Dr. Davidson's passion for teaching extended to trauma-related topics. He shared his knowledge with the Okanagan School of Massage and held teaching positions in the Psychology, Social Work, and Education departments at Okanagan University College, which is now UBC Okanagan. As an expert witness, Dr. Davidson was called upon to testify in court cases related to parental fitness, custody and access, and trauma. His expertise and professional credentials included a BA in Social Work from the University of Montana, an MA in Applied Behavioural Science from Whitworth University, and a doctorate in Counselling Psychology from UBC.
