Treatment overview
Enhancing Treatment Efficacy: Intensive Group Program for Operational Stress Injuries (OSIs)
Recognizing the need for more impactful treatment approaches, it has been established that intensive daily therapy over several weeks yields superior results for individuals grappling with operational stress injuries (OSIs). As a leading modality, group programs have demonstrated remarkable success in addressing OSIs. Many individuals experiencing OSIs lack comprehension of their own experiences, feel misunderstood by others, and endure social isolation. Consequently, our program offers an empathetic, non-judgmental environment that fosters education, coping strategies specific to OSIs, mutual support, and reduced social isolation.
To ensure optimal participant engagement and attentiveness, we admit four to six members per program. This group size strikes a balance, offering a supportive atmosphere without overwhelming participants while maintaining the necessary individualized attention required.
Daily one-on-one counselling sessions hold immense significance in helping participants integrate knowledge acquired during group sessions.
Tailored treatment plans are meticulously designed to cater to the unique needs of each individual in the program. Our comprehensive repertoire of treatments includes traditional empirically supported therapies as well as cutting-edge approaches such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Self-Regulation Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, HeartMath Biofeedback, Group Therapy/Education, Mindfulness, and Meditation.
Considering the impact of trauma-related conditions on relationships, intensive couples therapy is provided during the final 3-days of the program. Acknowledging the critical role of family support in the recovery process, our program also incorporates an educational session for significant others (when available) on the program's final day. Additionally, participants seeking guidance on pain management or career transitions can access the necessary assistance through our vocational/career consultation services.
The daily schedule encompasses individual sessions, group education, group counselling, relaxation/biofeedback sessions, exercise, and community exposure activities. Our program runs from 9 am to 3:30 pm each day, ensuring comprehensive engagement and optimal treatment outcomes.

Rolling admissions for programs involve an ongoing application and acceptance process. Here's how it works:
- Continuous Application Period: The program maintains an open application period throughout the year, with no fixed deadlines. Interested individuals can submit their applications at any time.
- Initial Screening: Once an application is received, an initial screening process takes place to assess the applicant's eligibility and suitability for the program. This may involve reviewing their medical history, previous treatment experiences, and any relevant documentation.
- Individual Assessment: Qualified applicants proceed to an individual assessment phase, which may include interviews, psychological evaluations, or discussions with program staff. This assessment helps determine the individual's specific treatment needs and whether the program is an appropriate fit for their requirements.
- Program Entry Points: Based on availability and the assessment results, accepted applicants are assigned to the next available program entry point. These entry points can be scheduled at regular intervals, such as every four weeks or based on the program's capacity.
- Program Duration: Programs are generally scheduled for 2, 4, or 6-weeks. Participants have the option to start early or extend their stay if needed.
- Individualized Treatment: Each participant receives an individualized treatment plan that aligns with their specific needs, regardless of their entry point into the program. The program staff works closely with participants to ensure a seamless integration into the existing treatment framework.
- Group Dynamics: Group therapy sessions play a crucial role in the program. This group dynamic provides an opportunity for peer support, shared experiences, and a sense of community.
- Continuity of Care: To maintain continuity, program graduates or participants who have been in the program for longer periods may act as mentors or provide support to newcomers. This fosters a supportive and inclusive environment while allowing for the exchange of knowledge and encouragement.
- Transition Planning: As participants complete their program, they receive transition planning to support their reintegration into their daily lives. This may involve our aftercare services, referral recommendations for continued therapy, and resources to sustain progress made during the program.
- By implementing rolling admissions, OSRP offers flexibility and accessibility, enabling individuals to receive the care they need when they are ready to embark on their healing journey.
